Camping at Granite Flat

We've been wanting to explore AF canyon for awhile now. We seem to drive up to Salt Lake whenever we want to hike or camp, and that is silly with our own canyon just five minutes away. We've been on many Sunday drives up and around the canyon. But never camping. I loved this site for getting good info and pictures of hikes that are nearby.

Last year we tried unsucessfully to get a last minute spot at Granite Flats. I'd taken the kids up hiking near there, and Jared has taken the kids fishing at Tibble Fork a couple of times. We thought it looked like a fun place. So this year, we booked it pretty early. Not early enough to score a Friday night. Apparently those go really fast--like back in February.

We loved the beautiful aspens and pines. Behind our campsite was a little pond with a duck family. My kids were SOOO excited to see the baby ducks. Miles and Simone refused to wear shoes most of the time. Everyone was very dirty and had a good time playing in the mountains.

My favorite part of the trip was kayaking around Tibble Fork Reservoir. Monet loved going out on her own. I understand that feeling Monet. It is so great to try something new and do it all by yourself.

We were so glad our friends the Rust's were able to come at the last minute. They moved here last year from Connecticut. My kids loved having their friends there.

There is nothing like spending a couple days in the mountains to make me appreciate what we've got. Having a sink, bed, bathroom and a shower feels luxurious!
