Lake Powell

Our summer of camping and not doing anything big is not turning out to be that way! We should do this every year. Not plan a vacation at all, then get invited to go all these cool places! We lucked out.

Last week Jared's brother Aaron invited us to go to Lake Powell with them. Of course we said "heck ya" in our best Utah accents. It was so fun to get to spend a little more time with our California family that we don't get to hang out with too much.

So we packed up our stuff and drove down to Lake Powell. I haven't been there in about 14 years. I loved the roadtrip down on HWY 89. Utah has some cute little towns down by Bryce Canyon. Lake Powell is beautiful! I loved the scenery.

I didn't remember too much about the weather. So the sweatshirts and clothing I packed for the kids--not even touched. It was SO hot. Next time I'll remember to pack my kids 2 swimsuits, a towel, and the clothes for the car ride and that is it. I loved it though.

Hot is great when you can just jump in the Lake whenever you want. We loved sleeping under the stars on the top of the houseboat. We had a great time watching Elise learn to wakeboard, and all the kids bouncing around on the tube.

We learned a lot about our kids. Some cousins were going to go jump off some cliffs. So Elise wanted to go. Then Monet, and Miles and Simone all wanted to go. I was pretty sure that as soon as they looked over the edge, they'd change their minds. Nope. Miles went for the running start and after popping out of the water at the bottom said, "That was awesome!" I talked Simone and Monet into a smaller one with less of a precarious edge.

Our kids were in heaven. Swimming all day, playing with their cousins, boat rides, riding the jet skiis, cliff jumping, hunting for lizards, hiking (okay, the hiking was too hot and a little scary.)

Monet and Simone and I found a little island and enjoyed swimming around it. We named it Mosi Island. Just a tiny little thing. They loved the novelty of it.

About the time the toilet stopped flushing, the refrigerators started stinking and Aaron and Kristen's friend chipped a bunch of teeth, and we started worrying about the houseboat having enough fuel to make it back to the marina, we decided it was time to head out. It was a very exciting and fun filled trip.

I tried wakeboarding again after 14 years. I remember it being easy, so I was so mad that after about seven or so tries I couldn't get up. I like to show off for my husband, and am not used to the feeling of not being able to do something. I guess it might have been the kids wakeboard I tried. Too bad I am way past the 98 lbs of yesteryear. I'm getting old!
