5K

Our cute neighbor was in a car accident in March that left her with extensive injuries, including a serious brain injury.  She is improving a lot, but still cannot talk or walk.  It is going to be a long recovery.

Some of our neighbors put on a 5K fundraiser for her.  It was so much fun to participate!  I love race mornings.  There is such a good energy.  Especially with this one.  My kids loved it.

I ran with Soren in the stroller.  I think he liked it!  I had to cut out the last mile because he started crying (at least that was my excuse ;)

Simone did the kids 1K and she did great!  Check out her form!  Pretty good for a 5 year old.

Elise, Monet and Miles all did fantastic too.  Miles even finished the whole thing and averaged 10:20/mile.  I was impressed.  Elise and Monet could beat me in a 5K even when I'm not 1 month postpartum.

I was so impressed with my kids that I'm going to sign us all up for a few more races this summer.  I have dreams of having us doing Ragnars and planning vacations around races.

Elise is amazing!  She killed it.  We don't know her exact time because she forgot to give the people her bib thingy.  But she was around 8 min/mile or faster.

Monet and her friends Addison and Faith did great!  Averaged 8:28 per mile.
Miles finished strong!  So proud of him.  He averaged 10:20/mile on those short little legs!

The funny part came after the race when Simone and Miles started worrying that something was "wrong" because their feet and legs hurt.  Lol.  They haven't experienced this kind of soreness before and didn't know what it was.

Soren's Newborn Pictures

My talented sister in law Steph took pictures of Soren when he was a week old.  I love how they turned out!  He was not sleepy at all during the shoot, so we were happy he napped for a couple of minutes so she could get the ones that he needed to be posed in.

I love this little guy!  I love how when he wants to open his eyes, he has to wrinkle up his forehead.  So sweet.

One Month

We've had some funny conversations around here recently!  Having a new baby in the house has been quite a learning experience for my younger two who have never been around babies.

Simone learned where milk comes from last year when a new cousin was born.  I laughed at her disgust.  Now that she is used to the idea, it doesn't seem to phase her.

Miles said to me, "Don't you wish other people in the family could nurse the baby?"  and I asked him, "Like you?"  He responded with the most emphatic shuddering "NOOOOO." I've ever heard.  LOL.  We are trying to teach Soren how to take a bottle and binky though.  I do much better with the nursing when I can get away for a few hours without worry.

Then he was explaining to Simone that "Mommy has this little pumper thingy that gets the milk out."  Too funny.

Simone was feeling all patriotic one day last week.  We past her school and she saw the American Flag waving in the wind.  And she said, "I love our flag.  It reminds me of something important.  (insert long pause) It reminds me that the pioneers died in the Mountains."

Looks like we have some history lessons to go over soon.

Speaking of my little peanut Simone, I love that girl.  She is so funny and unique.  She has officially grown out of the princess stage.   Two friends were playing princesses, and Simone came home.  I asked her why she didn't want to dress up too.  "I hate princesses" she responded.  So instead, she found another friend to play with.  They like to play "Coyote and Indian."  Gotta love their ingenuity!

I was interested to hear that Simone now would like to have a baby someday.  Up until now, babies were kind of annoying to her.  But recently I guess she's decided to someday be a mom.  But she'd also like to be a teacher like Mrs. Brimley, her preschool teacher.

As a youngest child, Simone hasn't had some of the experiences the other kids had.  She is usually watching Disney Channel tween type shows.  Hannah Montana is a current favorite.  She loves to sing the theme song as it comes on.  She was super jealous when I told her Elise and Monet actually went to the Hannah Montana concert.  And last week in the car, the kids were singing the "Ding Dong Barney is dead" --if you have kids in elementary school I'm sure you've heard it.  Simone asked who Barney was, then said, "Oh yeah, Barney, the big red dog."   Ha ha.  Clifford/Barney, she hasn't  really experienced too much PBS.
Monet and the kids are still fighting about who gets to hold the baby.  He is a sweet little guy.  It really hasn't been such a difficult adjustment so far.  I am hoping that keeps!  We've had lots of fun with him.  Last week he attended his first movie:: The Avenger's.  He was pretty good actually!  He cried a bit at the beginning and I missed some of it.  But Elise stayed with the other kids until Soren was out like a light.

Today he is one month old!  He celebrated by rolling over from tummy to back twice.  I put him on a blanket on the floor this morning, and laid him on his tummy.  I noticed he could hold his head up and did a little baby push up with his arms.  Next thing I know, I look over and he is on his back.  I mentioned it to Jared and he thought I must have been mistaken and I really put him down on his back to begin with.  So he laid him on his tummy, and Soren rolled over again.  So funny!  This little guy is strong!  He likes to hold his head up too.  Almost like he doesn't want me to help him by supporting it.  Although I still do because he is definitely wobbly.  He reminds me of a little caterpillar.

Soren started smiling on Mother's Day!  First thing in the morning he will grin at us.  It is so cute.  I'll have to get some pictures of it tomorrow.

We've had a fun month with him, and all the spring sports and craziness that goes along with that.  I haven't posted much because I honestly have been just busy, and when I am sitting my arms are full with the baby, which I am enjoying a ton.  I want to blog more because I have a lot of ideas of things I want to document and to remember.  But that will have to wait until Soren will nap in his bassinet for longer than a few minutes.  It seems that as soon as I put him down he wakes up.  But if I hold him, he stays asleep for a long time.  One thing I love about having a nursing new baby and all the holding that goes along with that is it really forces you to rest and slow down a lot.  And those moments are really nice.  I feel productive and important just sitting in my rocking chair and feeding him.
