This year we weren't able to do our normal 4th of July tradition of selling glowsticks at Sugarhouse Park. The event was cancelled due to funding. So we had to think of some other 4th of July tradition. It was hard! Honestly we all just wanted to be at Sugarhouse. All of us except Jared. But we decided to see the balloon launch and run the 5K together.
Unfortunately it was the worst organized race I've ever run! Except for maybe the Provo Canyon 1/2. That might be the worst. Anyway, it was frustrating. There was no parking information on the website. So we had to drive around the closed roads from the Parade route and try to figure out how to get to the start line. So we literally jogged 3 miles to just find the start line. There were HUNDREDS of others also looking for the start line. It was crazy. When we finally got there, they were dismantling the start line so our chips didn't work and our timing wasn't reflected at all. Bummer.
But Miles and I ran together and had a fun race anyway. It is just hard to start so long after the gun goes off. You lose that fun energy that is so motivating when anticipating the start of the race.
I think we'll keep looking for new July 4th traditions. We had swimming and a BBQ later and that was fun!
