I've been spending lots of time in the yard! Also looking at nurseries. Here is my garden journal basically.
This wasn't supposed to be this color but I like it anyway
Transplanted this catmint last year. The hydrangeas are not growing great behind them. Maybe the pine tree is causing the soil to be acidic. Which isn't great for Annabelle hydrangeas.
catmint goes everywhere. Not sure if I should even try to get rid of some of it. The new variety "cats pajamas" is really vibrant and cool and the flowers cover the plant. Wish I had that kind!
Grapes! These were pruned for the first time ever. And they needed it. So this year there will probably be less while we train them better.
Quick Fire Hydrangeas, Angel Wings and Pink Rock Candy Penstemon
These were 8 foot elderberries we cut down to 12" this March. They grow so fast. I will always cut them back if I don't remove them.
Not much for the bees yet! Some snapdragons and catmint.
This needs a bunch of Hostas and Astilbe
porch pots!
I don't like these two purples together and will move one of them
Been waiting so long to get one of these! Very excited to see it bloom
Everything got pruned hard this year and looks good except for the Potentilla. And much more manageable shape and size. Should be easier to find the grapes. But we won't have so many. But we needed to get things under control. Youcandoitgardening really inspired me this year.
The elderberries are so much better. I still have like five more to cut down. I don't really like all the elderberries and I'm considering taking some of them out and replacing them, but this is the first step to see if I like them better without the massive size.
We took out the Potentilla which I've always disliked. Apparently it needs to stay moist or it dries out and it just looks half dead and I don't like it anyway. I don't like the color of the yellow flowers on them. Paco hooked up a chain to his truck and around the bushes and just popped them out like a loose tooth with a piece of floss. So cool!
I pruned so many rosebushes this year and they are all so big again! Much better shape though. I moved the ones from behind the shed yesterday. We will see if they make it! I planted them like 10 years ago and they have been shaded by the shed we built for 4 years. Not and ideal place.
I've been to several nurseries this week! Its fun to compare. I still love Sun River Gardens the best. But Cooks had some good prices on their perennials. I'm trying to stop buying plants for awhile. I got enough already. But when I do buy more, I'm going to get hostas, New England Aster, Storm Cloud Amsonia, Hardy Aster, Red Muhly Grass. I went to Glover's Nursery for the first time. They have so many plants in stock. But its really expensive! Holy.
I did love this weird black grass! Would be cool in a halloween themed porch pot. Maybe I buy some just for fun!
Still lots to do out front! I am switching my formula. I used to plant a lot of annuals in this small front area. But I'm liking the park strip at Sun River Gardens and am moving toward clean, clumping low maintenance perennials. Then I don't have so many things to replace each year. I love the orange geum. And the pink dianthus. This garden looks great all summer and into fall with sedum, grasses, hydrangeas, boxwood, ornamental onions, etc.
This is my sisters beautiful house. Look how beautiful her stone wall is with these gorgeous roses and blue star! Finally figured out what these pretty blue flowers are. Blue Ice Amsonia. No one carries this kind that stays more compact so I ordered some online. I love how bright it is and how it looks with these blooming climbing roses. I planted one of these climbing roses on my chicken fence now that I don't have chickens who would eat it.
One of the taller Blue Star Amsonia varieties in fall.

| Pink Muhly grass on my wishlist. I'm just learning about grasses. Never planted any before. |
