Baby News

I found out a few weeks ago that we are expecting our fifth! I am due April 15. We are so excited. It took me about a day to process how my life was going to change. And I've had a few moments of panic. But I am so excited as well. It still seems a little surreal. I am really going to have a baby.

We've been thinking about having another one for the last two years, but I think I was a little gun-shy after having two toddlers and lots of chaos when Simone was a baby. I was always pretty open to having a caboose though. It got pretty comfortable and easy with having the kids all a little older. But I miss toddlers and babies. They just bring so many smiles, hugs and funny moments.

We were going to wait to tell the kids for awhile, but then we couldn't wait. They were so cute! We were at the park, and we told them we had some news. "We're getting another dog!" they screamed. Ha ha. It is all about pets for them. Finally, someone said, "we're having a baby?" hesitantly. Simone immediately ran to play on the playground and didn't say much. Miles was grinning ear to ear. He pats my belly and looks a little confused by where the baby is. But finally goes, "Oh, here it is, " as he pats my little roll of chub. I had to explain that the baby was still really tiny. I was a little concerned about Simone. But she went right to her friends houses to announce the news when she got home. And she is really happy about it now.

Since we told them, Miles has been praying for a brother. He calls me on my cell phone while I am out to suggest baby names. He likes Cache for a boy and Elizabeth for a girl. He says he doesn't want anything "too weird" so the baby won't get teased. Yesterday I was saying that baked potatoes for dinner sounded good, with butter. And he said, "mommy, you know, butter isn't very healthy for your baby." We were driving home the other day and I was explaining that it is kinda hard to be pregnant, because I am tired a lot, and when I get bigger, I won't be able to move around a lot or run. But it is all worth it. And he says, "Yeah it is totally worth it. We've been waiting for this baby for six and a half years!" Which is pretty true for him. Miles has never given up hope that we'd have another one. He's always trying to convince me that he has a brother somewhere, "but you don't have to have a baby now, you can wait five years or something!" was an actual quote from a few weeks ago.

Having another one isn't about boy or girl. I just love big families and I think it is the right time. And Miles said to me that he kinda likes being the only boy in the family, so I think he'd get over it if we had a girl too.

Miles and Simone both want to share their room with the new baby. So we'll just have to wait until about Halloween to find out the baby's gender. They both are always trying to sleep in someone else's room. I don't think either of them like to sleep alone. Maybe we'll just have them share and the baby will get its own space. That seems more logical.

So far, Monet's top name pick is Scarlett. Simone likes Emma. Miles likes Grayson. And Elise likes Janie. I am not sold on anything yet. I guess we'll think about it more when we find out the gender.

I've been feeling exhausted, but so happy to not be very sick. I have only thrown up three times, and at 10 weeks, that is really good for me. I am not nearly as nauseated as I was with the girls. Although the cravings are hard and I don't want to cook anything. We got to see the baby on ultrasound a few weeks ago, and it was really neat to see that tiny heart fluttering. We are excited for the next ultrasound in mid-October.

You know what's awesome about me?

Simone keeps saying, "You know what's awesome about me, Mommy?" I love it. Her "awesome about me" list includes: knowing how to do a cartwheel and not even crying when she got hurt.

I love that little girl! She keeps me smiling.

Simone's Turn!

Simone started Preschool last week. She had to wait two weeks after the big kids started, and that was a really long time. Jared and I took her out to lunch at Kneaders and dropped her off at preschool with her friend. She loves her teacher and looks forward to it everyday.

I was a little worried about her getting extremely bored at home. But she has gymnastics and friends to look forward to, even though Miles isn't here half the day to play.

She and I are little daytime buddies now. She loves to help me clean, and is a pretty good little shopper. Costco is her favorite because of all the samples. We also love to go to Mitchell's and get raspberries. Yum. I love harvesting season.
